CLEM MILLWARD

Clem Millward is an award winning Australian landscape painter.  Born in Melbourne in 1929, he is a contemporary of John Coburn, John Olsen and Kevin Connor.  He studied as an evening student at East Sydney Technical College and the Julian Ashton Art School, where he later became a full time student until 1951.  He spent the next 4 years studying in Bucharest, Romania.   From 1961 to 1985 he was employed as an art teacher with the New South Wales Department of Technical and Further Education, the last 13 years as Head Teacher at the Hornsby College of TAFE.  In 1985 he resigned from teaching to pursue his own painting on a full time basis.

Over the years he has been involved in many group exhibitions, being selected for the Archibald Prize Exhibition in 1958, the Sulman Prize Exhibition in 1966 and the Wynne Prize Exhibition from 1973 to 1987 and was awarded the Wynne Prize in 1973.  He has held over 25 solo exhibitions since 1976 both in Australia and overseas.

Clem Millward’s works are held in many state and regional galleries in Australia, including the Art Gallery of NSW and National Gallery of Australia.   His works are also held in many important corporate collections including Coles Myers, Holmes a Court Collection, Pacific Dunlop, Qantas and Westpac in Australia and Alcoa Collection, USA and Collins House, London, UK.  Please click on a work for more detail and to shop
