Michael Kempson was born in Kapunda, South Australia in 1961. He studied at the Alexander Mackie College and gratuated with a B.A. (Visual Arts) in 1982 and a Graduate Diploma (Professional Art Studies) in 1983. In 1996 he graduated from the College of Fine Arts, University of NSW with First Class Honours, Master of Fine Art.

Micheal Kempson has completed a number of commissions including for Qantas Airways, Kleinwort Benson, Sydney and Christies Contemporary Art in London.   He received numerous awards, prizes and grants for his print work.  He has held over 15 solo exhibitions and has participated in a very large number of group exhibitions both in Australia and overseas.

His work is represented in a number private and public collections both in Australia and overseas including the National Gallery of Australia, Canberra; Art Galllery of NSW; Macquarie University, NSW; University of NSW, Art Bank, Qantas and the Commonwealth Bank.
